Been letting these 2 paintings really breathe. 3 or so months in the making, they have changed alot but keep getting better and better. Just added the ladybug visitor in the red piece, was thinking a bee initially but the black and red of the piece was resistant to the idea of a yellow bumblebee. I don’t like to plan everything. That’s a big part of the MAGIC for me: tapping into the unknown of the creative process… you never know how the painting is going to Kung-Fu you into the next move.
I’m takin’ a break from working on these portraits today because of the cold here in the garage-studio but thought I should share what I’m up to… I am enjoying the evolution of these works. They started out pretty raw… a monochromatic Acrylic and had a powerful and direct mood but now I’m problem-solving by layering charcoal and oil.
I stopped painting on canvas in 08 because panels offered a better support for tape painting and super detailed linework. I have enjoyed reigniting the flame… canvas is bouncy, accepts wash layers nicely because of all of the little crevices and is very lightweight in opposition to the panels I’m workin’ with. chirp 200 milestone preview… which will be with me at the Bright Rain Gallery show May 4 2012. At 43×50″, the piece is my largest watercolor to date. I have been working on it since Nov 2011. Thanks to Lisa for the Robin and Chickadee reference photos! So here is the final version now that I finished it in march. I titled it chirp 200 Le Déjeuner .
My Friends!!!, I will be showing 20 + new works at Providence Gallery at the beginning of next month. Come if you can!’ Ill be there with family flanking. This new body of works continues my chirp series with a focus on small and precious gem like compositions with an attitude. My aim is still to create beauty, with an emphasis on pointing to happiness and evoking a sense of momentary eternal peace …like an excellent joke, song or prayer. Is that possible?
